Cross Country (FUN RUN) 2017 – FRIDAY 31ST OF MARCH
Our annual cross country will be run on the last day of school for term 1. This year to accompany the event, we have decided to attach a fundraising event where all of the funds that are raised will be utilised by the school to upgrade facilities decided upon by the Student Council, including upgrades for the basketball courts and undercover area. This fundraising organisation calls their fundraising ventures as ‘fun runs’, but in Malanda State School’s case it will be our cross country.

They are one and the same thing.
Students can fundraise either online or in person with prizes awarded for how much money is raised by each student. Small fundraising booklets have been given to your child that outlines most of the relevant information needed. This money will need to be collected and brought back into school on Thursday the 30th of March (The day before the cross country/ fun run occurs. Student council will then collect money, send away details for prizes and they should arrive around week 5 of next term). As you can see from the booklets, there are great prizes for the amount your child fundraises, as well as additional chances at major prizes across all the school. As well, each Malanda SS student will receive a Berry fruit juice when they finish the cross country on the 31st.

The Course
Students from all grades will run around a course which will start at the showgrounds and wind its way through the rainforest and surrounding areas along the river and finish back at the showgrounds. Parents will be able to see the race from around the outside of the showground rail so please come along and support the kids. They have been training in class since last week and the seniors have put out markers in the morning which has seen loads of students running around the course before school and during lunches training. The course this year will be longer to reflect the distances the students will run when they compete for a spot on the tablelands team held at Butcher’s Creek School in term 2.

The age groups for our cross country will also reflect the Butchers Creek event which will be longer than last year. On our cross country day, there will be a prep race (not for places) around the inside of the showgrounds at a distance of around 300 metres. The 2011/2010 age groups will race in the same event (junior category) that will be 1.2km. The 2009 and 2008 age groups will compete together in the intermediate race with the higher placing student’s invited to run at the tablelands trials. Different to last year, there will be 3 individual event category in the age groups of 2007, 2006 and 2005. The course will be longer this year with 2km for the 2007 age group, and 3km approximately for the 2005/06 students, which is like it will be at the next level of trials. There will be winners in the boys and girls categories for each race which will receive medallions.

They have just over 3 weeks left so get them out there running around your house/yard and come watch them compete, they will definitely impress you with their effort.
